Doctors who fail us in our Covid infested world!
Today I’m consumed by anger. I am angry at the physicians who put people at risk of contracting COVID-19 with their behaviors. I am also angry at the widespread anti-medicine and anti-science sentiments that has brewed in our country and has overflowed to other nations who look up to us as a role model. I am angry at the pervasive attitudes of those who label the pernicious COVID’s pandemic a hoax. When legitimacy of medical sciences is questioned by so many quacks who only care for their own financial well-being, and then it is supported by certain medical doctors, it produces a domino effect that affects the health of so many families in our country. Let me be clear about this; I am not furious at those anti-science advocates who have no medical expertise and belittle our medical sciences. They act exactly as expected of them. They pursue their own self-interest and they are consistent to their own cores. I am furious at those doctors who place their retirement accounts and financial opportunities above their loyalties to their profession. To me, they are hypocrites who fuel anti-medicine sentiments by their indifference and by failing to rebut the COVID-19 hoaxers. I am mad at them because they are either self-interested individuals who have never truly cared about other humans, or they are so ignorant that they fail to appreciate that their silence and actions fuel hoax theories and endangers the health of millions of people, including families and friends of all of us who look up to them as the masters of COVID science. Today, I am compelled to remind these pseudo-doctors of the promises that they made before. I must remind them that they have apparently totally forgotten their personal and professional duties; namely, promoting health and prolonging lives for their patients and their communities. I understand that they all should work for a fee, but how much of their fees are they willing to give-up to promote medicine and as a result the respect for their profession in the eye of the whole world?
Do you remember the time that you had to write your medical college admission essay? Do you remember how desperate you were at the time? You wrote whatever that could have enhanced your chances for getting into the medical school. Do you remember how passionately you argued for your love of promoting humanity? I’m not sure if you said Mother Teresa was your role model, or eradication of human suffering was your lifelong passion, but I’m sure you said something along those lines! Well, that was back then. Now, that you are a practicing physician, I think it’s only fair if I remind you of what you wrote back then. Do you recall your professional oath? Didn’t you proudly say that “firstly, you will do no harm”! Well, today I’m downright angry at you, as several of those 27 million people who have contracted COVID-19 are my friends and family members. Had many of those who have contracted Covid not lowered their guards in our COVID infested world they wouldn’t have contracted the disease in the first place. It is because of the actions of people like you that many people tend to lower their guards in our COVID infested world. I’m not mad at those who are ignorant about medicine and demean it. They do what is expected of them, and no rational person drops his or her guard against COVID-19 because of their follies. I am mad at you who are practicing medicine and have chosen to flock with them.
Today I must remind you again that the wisdom of medicine mandates that you safeguard people against the worst health hazards of their lives.
My dear doc, I may expect anyone to call COVID-19 a hoax, but not you!
September 9, 2020
I lost a dear friend of mine two weeks after I wrote the above blog. He passed away during early morning hours of September 23. Had he not lowered his guard against the Covid-19, his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and many of his friends, including myself, would have enjoyed his association for many more years.
Shame on doctors who place their financial wellbeing over the wellbeing of people.
Dr. E
